Presentation: The Senegalese Institute of Agricultural Research (ISRA) has the specificity of conducting research in four areas of production (crop production, livestock production, forestry and fish production) and on socio-economics, which warrant its agricultural vocation in the broad sense. Its research for development agenda is structured around four major axes: - Promotion of efficient, resilient, competitive, and sustainable production systems - Agricultural transformation and durable support to family farms and agribusinesses - Scientific intelligence, foresight, and valorization - Capacity development and partnership strengthening The institute collaborates with several national, regional, and international organizations in order to generate knowledge and agricultural innovations that will contribute to enhanced resilience and productivity of food systems, better nutrition and livelihoods of populations, and food security. In partnership with higher education schools and universities, ISRA contributes to the training of the next generations of agricultural scientists in various domains through lectures, thesis supervision and co-animation of degree programs. Through its research data, ISRA also guides evidence-based policymaking and supports the government in the implementation of development programs. To have a better coverage of the country and to speed up the deployment of research results for the benefit of smallholder farmers, herders, fishermen and other value chain actors, ISRA operates from different locations close to its development partners and beneficiaries. Entrusted by various donors, and monitored by its governing bodies, the institute keeps up with scientific excellence and the mission to serve agricultural development.
