Presentation: As the main agricultural research institution in Madagascar's National Agricultural Research System, FOFIFA is a Public Industrial and Commercial Establishment, with legal personality and financial and administrative autonomy. FOFIFA comprises six central scientific departments: the Department of Agronomic Research (DRA), the Department of Rice Research (DRR), the Department of Zootechnical, Veterinary and Fish Research (DRZVP), the Department of Forestry Research and Natural Resource Management (DRFGN), the Department of Technological Research (DRT) and the Department of Research and Development (DRD). Within the scientific research field, FOFIFAs missions are to: - contribute to the elaboration of the national research policy in the field of rural development, and to ensure the definition, promotion, orientation, coordination and capitalization of all research activities; - implement the national rural development research policy and ensure the definition, promotion, orientation, coordination and capitalization of all research activities; - develop basic thematic research, to generate knowledge and techniques to be able to anticipate problems. Furthermore, FOFIFA is also responsible to contribute to Madagascar’s rural development. Doing so, their missions include: - implementing the general policy and strategy framework documents of the Ministry of Agriculture; and – supporting and accompanying the dissemination of research results to target beneficiaries. FOFIFA is mainly involved in plant production (rice and other crops), animal and fish production, forestry, socio-economics and agri-food processing.
