Key achievements include research on rice genetic diversity controlling rice blast and studies on grape origin, migration, and variety differentiation, published in journals like Nature and Science. The university has developed and widely applied principles and technologies for using rice genetic diversity to control rice blast, crop diversity and pest control technologies, winter potato cultivation systems, and understory medicinal plant systems, covering over 30 million hectares globally. This makes it a world leader in using biodiversity to control pests and diseases. The university houses several national and provincial research platforms, including the State Key Laboratory for Conservation and Utilization of Bio-Resources in Yunnan and the National Engineering Research Center for Applied Technology of Agrobiodiversity.
